Great Dane - Deutsche Dogge - Great  Dane

14.June.2007
Long time no see.
Lots of things happened during the last weeks.
First Sadie was very sick but she is back to her best health ever and met a few new friends along the way.....all the dogs our vet owns and lives with :)
After that our daughter Anna got married and we had friends from all over the world and from all parts of Canada staying with us and joining us for our special event. Our dogs were the highlight of many get-togethers. One auntie from Estland was so excited about our 3 doggies :)
After 3 weeks of excitement and company everywhere in the house we said goodbye to the last friends and got back to normal ....... at least we thought we would but I got the flu and it hit me so hard that I couldn't leave my bed for almost 5 days.
Cinder couldn't quite understand why everything was moved upstairs and he decided he would move his daily live and sleeping quarter up into my bedroom too :))
Of course first Sadie followed him - at least I am her human and how dare that new kid on the block assumed he could just move upstairs and she had to stay downstairs .......
later on Ed was wiped out by the flu and now Pepper also had a definite reason to join all of us upstairs and curl up right in the doorway.
We are all back to normal and fever-free and the doggies are back to their usual sleeping habits and back to their pillows :)

Talking about the progress Cinder made in our pack so far.
He still is a very laud talker if he doesn't agree with things. He barks at people he thinks do not belong here. He wines when he, like all of our Danes, has to wait in the dining room until the food is served in the kitchen. Ohhh man does he hates waiting and obeying .... ha ha ha..... it is so entertaining to see him sooo excited that he has to scratch the floor like he wants to dig a hole in the ground...... crying like a little baby....
He really is not used to be put on hold and wait for whatever might come his way. But he is getting better every time. He is such a wonderful and loving boy.

This week was a bad week. First Ed and I got sick with
diarrhea and then Sadie got sick and she got worse to a point where I had to get up ever 30 minutes last night to let her out either to vomit or to relieve her self at the other end. It was so bad that Ed took her to the vet today and they found out that she caught a very bad diarrhea and was dehydrated already. So they kept her and put her on an infusion for now. The vet will call us tomorrow to see how she is doing.

After morning training with Cinder and Sadie the rest of the day was just lazy sunbathing ....... nothing else.

17.April.2007
This morning at 7:30 p.m. we went to the beach with all three to do obedience training again. Cinder still has a hard time to come on command but is getting better by the hr
J
He walks fine on my side now when having him on a leash so it is just a matter of time to get him where our two girls are.
In the house he listens very well already but in a strange environment and especially with the disturbance of other dogs he has a hard time to focus on me and not on all the interesting things and smells around him.
So when going tomorrow I might just go back to only taking my Sadie with him to the beach to keep it down to one other companion.
When preparing food he already obeys and stays quiet with and in his new pack.
We are also working still on his whining………… which shows already great improvement.
He is a wonderful dog and we are very happy to have him in our family-pack

Today I took a picture after we went outside for an hr of garden play. Now they are playing dead and are having their afternoon nap.

The feeding of the pack. As we trained our two girls to wait in the dining room while we prepare their bowls for breakfast (usually at 8 am) or dinner (at 5:30 pm), Cinder has a hard time to not stick his nose into what's going on with "his" food.
He needs some training regarding those little issues.
I went to the area where we train our dogs (Sauble Mouth Beach) early in the morning when nobody is around and did some training. Walking right beside me, coming back when calling him, sit and wait and things like that.
He is a wonderful boy and we got to know him quite well in those few days. One thing we also discovered is that he is a little whiny-baby. Whenever one of the girls gets out to pee first and he has to wait, he starts to whine in a very high pitch that one could think he is a little Schitzu puppy. It is soooo funny seeing that big boy in front of you whining like a little newborn baby.
He also has to learn that he doesn't have to bark every time the business door bell rings. Our two girls don't bother they know that this is normal and happens uncountable times during the day. He still feels like it is something special and he has to tell us that a stranger is wanting to come in :)

Last night Cinder came home with us - for good !!!
After a growling welcome from Sadie and Pepper both of them accepted Cinder into our family clan.
Arriving at about 1a.m. this morning we had some in and out - up and down caravans ..... but after every nook and corner was explored Cinder finally settled for his new bed and took a nap.

Pat - thanks for the nice welcome and for your time and especially for talking care of Cinder till we could pick him up. We are very happy to have him - it was great meeting you.

Oh by the way - tell your ladies at Petopia that Cinder totally abandoned his teddy-bear after he could get his teeth on Sadie's stuffed doggy :)  He loves it and it has become his new favourite cuddly toy.

JoAnne too sad that I didn't see you this time for a little chat, since we picked Cinder up at Pat's place. I hope you and your Danes are doing fine. I took the liberty to add your website to our link page too. Thanks to all your help along the way!!

First Great Dane was Lady a Harlequin female. We were very proud that she reached the age of 12 before she passed.

Pepper is a Merle Great Dane she will turn 5 this year.

Sadie (former Annie) a Fawn joined us in 2005 at the age of 3.

Our latest addition is Cinder and 6 year old Great Dane Merle male.
